This is a treatment for a variety of conditions. This modality uses shockwaves, (probably better-called pressure waves), to improve circulation and stimulate natural healing processes. Despite the name, don’t worry there is no getting hooked up to electrodes and using electric shocks! The shockwave is administered via a handpiece that directs the shockwaves at the desired point.
In podiatry primary uses are treating Plantar fasciitis, (heel spur syndrome), Achilles tendonitis and myofascial trigger points, (traditionally treated using acupuncture needles, so a useful alternative to those who really don’t like needles).
So if you are suffering heel pain, either underneath or at the back of your heel, this could be the treatment for you, particularly if previous interventions haven’t worked.
